Biography

Alison came to the Gustavson School of Business full-time in July 2022, after teaching a term in 2021. Most recently, she taught financial accounting and accounting theory at Camosun College in Victoria for 13 years in the BBA program. She also taught many UVic BCom students in the same classes as prerequisites for the Canadian accounting designations. She is a technical consultant for CPA-BC in the development of educational accounting materials, working as an author, technical reviewer and materials auditor in financial and management accounting, strategy and performance management.

Alison has been primarily examining the history of the modern updates in financial reporting as they occurred starting from 2007 to 2011 when radical changes in Canada’s reporting occurred. In these years, public companies in Canada moved from an independent accounting standard to adopting an international standard used by the majority of the world’s GDP.

Alison established her accounting roots working for the Canadian Forces in reserve units across Canada in payroll, internal control, non-public funds accounting, and developing and delivering accounting courses. Alison worked for many years as an accountant and as a board member for not-for-profit societies in Victoria and subsequently as a property management accountant and a tax auditor for Canada Revenue Agency.

Alison is passionate about teaching accounting as a foundational skill for business literacy and communication.
